The Garden Route runs along the southern coastline of South Africa, from Mossel Bay to the Tstisikamma Forest, and is noted for it's spectacular mountain ranges, indigenous forests and stunning beaches.
The charming town of George, known as "The Gateway to the Garden Route", is a good base from which to explore the area, while other notable towns include Knysna, Wilderness and Oudtshoorn, famous for it's Ostrich Farm and the nearby Cango Caves.
Tour Itinerary ...
Day 1 - Tuesday
We depart from Cape Town and travel to Worcester via Du Toit's Kloof pass. At Worcester we visit the fascinating open air museum, a live and interesting exhibition dedicated to the farming community. Lunch is arranged at a restaurant in Montagu. We then travel through the mountains to the Little Karoo. Changing scenery from lush farmland to semi-desert areas make this a day of surprises. A warm welcome awaits us from the staff at the Riempies Estate Hotel where we overnight.
- Dinner, bed and breakfast at the Riempies Estate Hotel (3 star) in Oudtshoorn.
Day 2 - Wednesday
Awake to the fresh Karoo air. After a good breakfast we visit the world famous Cango Caves where we take a guided tour lasting over an hour full of fascination. We set off to the Crocodile & Cheetah farm, to see the breeding of these frightening reptiles and felines. Even more fascinating is the ostrich, so, we visit Highgate Ostrich farm for a tour and lunch. The afternoon brings us over the mountains, through George and Wilderness en route to Knysna. Our overnight stay is on the water's edge at the Knysna Quays hotel.

Day 3 - Thursday
After a leisurely breakfast you will have some time to spend on your own in the quaint village of Knysna. Alternatively our guide will take you to the Garden of Eden to show you the heart of the Garden Route. Late morning we set sail on the Knysna Lagoon aboard a private catamaran. Sailing is one of the traditional modes of transport in this area and you will be able to enjoy a most spectacular view of the area before we return to Knysna for lunch. We then join a real steam train* which travels along one of the world's most picturesque train routes to George. After arrival in George our guide will transfer you to the King George hotel. Sleep well after a full and exciting day.

Day 4 - Friday
After breakfast we depart for Mossel Bay along the scenic coastal route. At Mossel Bay we visit the historic Post Office Tree where early navigators left mail for the homebound ships to Europe. Our route to Swellendam is via farmlands and rolling hills. The town is full of romantic history. In the afternoon our route takes us through charming Hermanus, seaside retreat of the wealthy and famous. We arrive back in Cape Town after four fabulous days!
